About

Mirror Realms collaborates with a host of international partners to bring the world’s most rich and inventive new media creations to an English speaking audience. Puppet Guardian from Japan, our first published MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game), is one such collaboration. Its wealth of detail, unique sensibility, and imaginative power make it a game that stands out in a crowded field.  Its companion game, Magical Rooms fits the same description.
With an office in Tokyo, Mirror Realms also offers new media and entertainment companies the chance to develop an audience and market in Japan.

Puppet Guardian and Magical Rooms are matching pair of online role playing games that represent yet another another burst from Japan’s explosion of animated culture. These games has much in common thematically with Hayao Miyazaki’s movies, in particular the mesmerizing Academy Award winner Spirited Away, and his The Castle in The Sky.   The games share Miyazaki’s devotion to animating his scenes in a rich and unique style and are the achievement of animators whose work is a matter of personal pride.

The character and setting styles have more in common with traditional Japanese animated characters like Sazai-san, Doraemon, or Chibi Maruko-chan than many of the newer animated series.  It is in the items and their details that the game designers express much of the unique and endlessly detailed sensibility that defines Puppet Guardian and Magical Rooms.

This blog will provide a lot of practical game tips and item guidance.  But it will also introduce creators Kentaro Ishizaka and the designers of Cold Breath. Finally, a little less practically but still of interest we hope, the Mirror Realms Blog will consider our games in light of the dazzling culture at their root, Japanese animation.
